Our History
The North 24th Street Church of God was officially established in October 1923. Initial services were held at 3007 Ohio Street, the home of Emma Whiteside, the church’s founder. In August 1924, Rev. S.S. Spaght answered God’s call to be the first pastor of the church, including Sis Whiteside, and the small congregation of three (Sis. Dana Williams Scott, Davella Clark, Sis Lewis) and their families. Several moves were necessary during the first six years to accommodate the increasing membership. The church moved from Sis Whiteside’s home to 25th and Hamilton Street, to 33rd and Emmett Street, to 28th Street, and finally, the Sunset Dance Hall at 2025 North 24th Street.
In 2001 the church completed Phase 1 of construction of the new Worship Center on the south portion of the property. The 6600 square foot building is a combined worship and fellowship hall with a seating capacity of 300, classrooms, administrative offices, a conference room, a nursery, and a complete kitchen facility.
In 2019, with the faithful commitment of our congregation and the help of God, we retired our mortgage 2 years early and we can now say…
God has been so faithful and allowed us to “finish the work”
so in 2020 we set our focus on
